COLLEGE PARK, Md.-Duke University redshirt sophomore Brandon Gambucci made headlines in the 2013 ACC Wrestling Championship semifinal with an 11-2 major decision upset of top-seeded Geoffrey Alexander of Maryland. The win secures Gambucci a berth in the NCAA Championships and a spot on the ACC podium, a first for the 133-pounder.

Duke qualified five wrestlers into the semifinals after the first round, opening the day with victories at 133, 141, 157, 174, and 197 pounds. Gambucci proved to be the lone Blue Devil to advance to the title match as the remaining nine Duke wrestlers drop down to the consolation semifinals.

After outlasting Joey Ward of North Carolina 3-2 in his opening bout, Gambucci left no question in his semifinal bout. Wrestling with confidence, Gambucci scored early and never looked back as he twice put Alexander on his back for the major decision. He is the 34th Blue Devil all-time to land a berth in the NCAA postseason.

Up against second-seed Zach Neibert of Virginia Tech, sophomore Tanner Hough battled hard, but could not upset the 13th-ranked Hokie in a 10-2 major decision. Hough will battle Maryland's Frank Goodwin with the winner being guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Championship field.

At 157 pounds, redshirt sophomore Immanuel Kerr-Brown fell just short of upending No. 2 seed Jedd Moore of Virginia. Moore scored a late takedown to ice the 5-2 decision and advance to the title bout. Kerr-Brown is set to take on North Carolina's Chris Mears in the consolation semifinal. Kerr-Brown edged Mears 5-4 in overtime during the regular season.

Redshirt freshmen Trey Adamson and Conner Hartmann rounded out Duke's semifinalists at 174 and 197 pounds, respectively. Adamson, in a hard-fought match, got turned on his back late in the third period by top-seeded Josh Asper. He will battle Patrick Davis of NC State, who he defeated 15-5 during the regular season dual.

Hartmann was handed just his ninth loss of the year in a 3-1 decision to No. 1 seed Christian Boley of host Maryland. Boley scored a takedown late in the third period to outlast the Duke 197-pounder. Hartmann will wrestle Tar Heel Frank Abbondanza for the right to wrestle for a podium spot.

The consolation semifinal round begins at 3:30 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN3. Updated brackets are available here.
