DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University wrestling squad opens its dual season this weekend with a tough road test against 13th-ranked Northwestern of the Big Ten this Saturday, Dec. 1. The Blue Devils also will face Stevens Tech in Evanston, Ill.

Dual Information
Duke and the Wildcats square off at 7:30 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena on the campus of Northwestern. The match between the Blue Devils and the Ducks will begin following the conclusion of the first bout. The opening bout with Northwestern will feature live stats at with a link available at Live scoring of the second match will not be available.

Duke - Northwestern Series History
The matchup with Northwestern will be Duke's first meeting between the two schools. The Blue Devils last faced a Big Ten opponent Nov. 24, 2007, falling to Indiana in Bloomington. In fact, the Hoosiers are the lone Big Ten foe Duke has faced in its program history.

About the Blue Devils
Duke enters its first dual match of the season after solid showings in three early season tournaments. The Blue Devils most recently took seventh of 15 teams at the Keystone Classic despite missing two wrestlers in the competition. The seventh-place finish was a three-spot improvement from a year ago. Conner Hartmann paces Duke from the 197-pound division with a 12-2 overall record and three top three finishes. Brandon Gambucci is 5-1 with his first action of the year coming in a third-place finish at the Keystone Classic. Overall, Duke has placed wrestlers at a tournament 10 times this season.

Blue Devils to Make Dual Debuts
Up to six Duke wrestlers could be making their dual debut for the Blue Devils this weekend. Redshirt freshman Marcus Cain (149), Andrew DeHart (157), Trey Adamson (174) all will be donning a Duke singlet in a dual for the first time. Redshirt freshmen Dylan Ryan (184) and Brendan Walsh (285) also could get on the mat for Duke.

Scouting Northwestern
Northwestern is making its Welsh-Ryan Arena debut this weekend sporting a 1-0 record and ranked 13th nationally. The Wildcats own a 32-6 win over Stanford and most recently won the 15-team field at the Keystone Classic. Four wrestlers won their weight class at Penn with freshman Dominick Malone winning the 125-pound division in his tournament debut. Second-ranked Jason Welch headlines the Northwestern lineup at 157 pounds with a 6-0 record, while No. 8 Lee Munster and No. 12 Pierce Harger also are undefeated. Overall, the Wildcats have six wrestlers in the probable lineup ranked among the top 20.

Duke in the Rankings
Redshirt freshman Conner Hartmann has been a mainstay in the individual rankings for the previous two weeks. Sporting a 12-2 overall record and a trio of top three tournament finishes at 197 pounds has launched him to the 18th spot in the latest Amateur Wrestling News (AWN) individual rankings. Redshirt senior Diego Bencomo debuted at No. 19 in the AWN poll Nov. 6 before falling out of the top 20. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Gambucci has earned some recognition in the WrestlingReport DI rankings as well. 

Scouting Stevens Tech
Stevens Tech (The Stevens Institute of Technology) is a Division III team located in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks earned their highest national ranking during the 2011-12 season at No. 16. The Ducks enter Saturday's dual with two tournaments and a dual under their belts, placing eighth at the Roger Williams Invitational and sixth at the Doug Parker Invitational. Stevens Tech fell to No. 26 The College of New Jersey, 31-11, in its lone dual of the year. Senior Joey Favia (165) and sophomore Mike Polizzi (149) both won their weight classes at the Roger Williams Invitational.

Up Next for the Blue Devils
Duke will face yet another tough test when it travels to take on Eastern Michigan and Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., next Saturday, Dec. 8. The Blue Devils will break for final exams and the holidays before returning to competition at the Southern Scuffle Jan. 1-2.
