DURHAM, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the brackets for the 2014 ACC Wrestling Championships set for Saturday, March 8 at Virginia Tech. Duke redshirt junior Immanuel Kerr-Brown led the way for the Blue Devils as the No. 3 seed at 157 pounds.

The seeds were determined by a vote of the seven ACC head coaches.

Kerr-Brown, going 5-1 in ACC action during the year, earned the No. 3 spot behind top-seeded and No. 14 Blaise Butler of Virginia and NO. 2 seed Tommy Gantt of NC State. Gantt was the lone ACC wrestler to defeat Kerr-Brown during the regular season. The native of Rome, Ga., finished the regular season 22-10 overall and 15-6 and duals and most recently was listed at No. 33 in the NCAA RPI rankings.

Pittsburgh’s Ronnie Garbinski awaits Kerr-Brown in the first round. The two did not square off during the regular season. The winner advances to wrestler the winner of the No. 2 Gantt versus No. 7 Danny Orem match.

At 197 pounds, redshirt sophomore Conner Hartmann was voted as the No. 5 seed. He will go up against fourth-seeded Zach Nye of Virginia in the opening round. Nye edged Hartmann 5-4 during the regular season. Hartmann is 20-8 overall on the year and climbed to No. 14 in the final regular season rankings by OpenMat.com. He is in search of his second consecutive NCAA Championships appearance. There are five automatic bids from the 197-pound group for the ACC this season.

Redshirt sophomore Marcus Cain also garnered a No. 5 overall seed and will wrestle Geno Morelli of Pittsburgh. Cain lost a tough 7-4 decision to Morelli during the regular season. The winner advances to wrestler No. 1 seed Nick Sulzer of Virginia. Cain, moving up from 149 pounds a year ago, is 11-15 overall and posted a 2-4 mark in ACC competition. He owns wins over Maryland and NC State.

Earning the sixth seed for Duke are redshirt freshman Evan Botwin (133), redshirt sophomore Trey Adamson (174), freshman Jacob Kasper (184) and redshirt sophomore Brendan Walsh (285). Redshirt freshman Calvin Campbell (125), freshmen Xaviel Ramos (141) and Connor Bass (149) all were seeded seventh. Campbell will wrestle for the first time this season after suffering an early season injury.

Action begins at the 60th annual ACC Wrestling Championships March 8 at 10 a.m. The finals will begin at 7 p.m. All of the action will be broadcast by ESPN3.
