Wrestling Hosts Maryland in Regular Season Finale

DURHAM, N.C.-Fresh off of a commanding victory over Campbell, the Duke University wrestling team will close out its regular season schedule against ACC foe Maryland on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Blue Devils and Terrapins square off in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 1 p.m.

Live stats and live video will be available for the match at Duke enters the match with a 2-5-1 overall record in dual meets and an 0-4 mark against conference competition. The Blue Devils most recently defeated Campbell in a convincing 39-18 victory on senior day. Duke registered four pins in seven matches wrestled by the Blue Devils.

Leading the way for the Blue Devils this season are redshirt freshman Bret Klopp and redshirt sophomore Diego Bencomo at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively. Klopp sports a 27-9 overall record with 18 of those wins being pins. He is 1-3 against ACC opponents and 5-3 in dual matches. Bencomo sports a 24-12 overall record and has won eight of his nine previous bouts. The Phoenix native is 2-2 in ACC matches and 5-3 overall in duals.

Redshirt sophomore Andrew Fulk is coming off of an impressive win over Campbell's Parker Burns. Fulk picked up a 13-4 major decision against the 2010 NCAA qualifier to push his overall record to 7-16 on the year.

Seniors Mike Bell and Willy Mello will compete in their final matches at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Bell has turned in a career-best season with a career-high 17 wins at 141 pounds. He most recently posted a technical fall against the Camels and is 3-5 overall in duals. Mello anchors the 165-pound division for the Blue Devils. He earned an ACC victory over NC State and is 3-5 overall in dual matches this season.

At 149 pounds, redshirt junior A.J. Guardado will be looking for his 11th win of the year. Guardado is 3-5 in dual contests this year and most recently registered a fall against Campbell. Rookie Ryan Harding will compete at 157 pounds with a 13-16 overall record. He also registered a pin in the Blue Devils' victory over Campbell, needing just 1:10 to close out the match.

Maryland comes to Durham with a 13-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark against ACC foes. The Terrapins last defeated American 19-17 and own ACC wins over North Carolina and Virginia. Four Terrapins are ranked among the top 20 with Josh Asper leading the way at No. 3 at 165 pounds. Asper is 26-2 overall and is unbeaten in dual matches a 16-0.

Kyle John is 14th at 157 pounds with a 25-8 overall mark, while John Kohler is ranked 17th with an 18-6 record. Mike Leets rounds out the ranked group at No. 19 at 174 pounds with an 18-6 record. Overall, Maryland is 99-66 in dual bouts.

The Blue Devils will get a break before beginning postseason competition at the ACC Championship on March 5 at Virginia.
