Top-seeded senior Henrique Cunha cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the quarterfinals of singles play, as he defeated fifth-seeded Andrew Adams of South Carolina. Freshman Michael Redlicki dropped his quarterfinal match to Elon's Cameron Silverman, 7-5, 6-3. Cunha will face Silverman in Sunday's semifinals.
Junior Chris Mengel, the second-seeded player, also reached the semifinals after defeating UNC Wilmington's Sam Williams, 6-3, 6-3. He will face North Carolina's Esben Hess Olesen in Sunday's semifinals.
In the main doubles draw, the team of Cunha and sophomore Raphael Hemmeler advanced from the second round after posting an 8-3 victory against Nicky Kunz and Joe Schafer of Davidson. The top-seeded duo defeated Clemson's Gerado Meza and Ayrton Wibowo in the third round, 8-4. The pair will face North Carolina's Esben Hess-Olessen and Nelson Vick on Sunday.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals on Saturday were the pair of Mengel and Saba who defeated Raphael Berghaus and Grayson Mills of Presbyterian, 8-4. The junior tandem then defeated NC State's David Thomson and Sean Weber 9-8 (2) in a tightly-contested match. Mengel and Saba, the second-seeded duo in the draw, will face Kosta Blank and Chris Cooprider on Sunday.
The pair of Redlicki and sophomore Jason Tahir defeated North Carolina's Brett Clark and William Parker in the second round, 9-8 (8) in a match that saw each team go back-and-forth, while dropping their third round contest against Raphael Aita and Sam Williams of UNC Wilmington, 9-8 (5).
Two rounds of doubles and the singles semifinals are scheduled to be played on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
