OKLAHOMA CITY – Duke University redshirt sophomore Conner Hartmann concluded his fabulous run through the 197-pound bracket today with a 1-1 mark to take fifth overall at the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Hartmann, unseeded going in to the tournament, is the second Duke wrestler to capture All-America honors in program history.

Duke finished with 13.5 points overall and headed into the final session tied for 29th of 73 teams in the event. The 13.5 points are tied for the second most in program history, match the 2010 total.

After posting a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over Nathan Burak of Iowa in consolation round five Friday night, Hartmann went up against No. 4 seed Scott Schiller of Minnesota for a spot in the consolation final. The Golden Gopher scored a takedown in the first period and again in the third to hold off a late comeback from Hartmann for the 4-3 decision en route to his third-place finish.

Hartmann closed out his day with a win by medical forfeit from Virginia Tech’s Chris Penny. The Port Orchard, Wash., native was one of three unseeded wrestlers to land on the podium at the end of the tournament.

Hartmann finished his NCAA Championships with a 5-2 record with wins over the No. 7, No. 10 and No. 11 seeds in the tournament. Overall, he posted a 27-11 record to improve his career mark to 47-22.
