MANDEVILLE, Jamaica - Duke alumnus and current volunteer track & field and cross country coach Andrew Brodeur won the High Mountain Coffee 10K Road Race in Mandeville, Jamaica after crossing the line in 31:38 on Sunday, January 27.  The Brick, N.J., native finished 39 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the international race and nearly broke the course record.

"Andrew's time on a tough hilly course in Jamaica was very encouraging," commented Director of Track and Field Norm Ogilvie.  He had been training in some cooler weather in Durham the past few weeks and had to adjust to the heat and humidity of Jamaica.  He is looking to run well under 30:00 for 10K on the track this spring at the Penn Relays and is right on course to achieve that goal."

A two-time all-region honoree in cross country, Brodeur closed out his collegiate career with the third-best performance on Duke's all-time track & field charts in the indoor 3,000m and with the fourth-best performance in program history in the outdoor 5,000m. The Brick, N.J., native also earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades in cross country as a senior after taking 11th overall at the conference meet.

Brodeur graduated in 2012 with degrees in biological anthropology and anatomy.  He currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the men's track & field and cross country team while also participating in Duke's secondary teacher preparation program where he is earning his certification to teach science and history for grades 6-12.

"He has been a great mentor to our student-athletes here at Duke in his role as a volunteer assistant coach.  Somehow he juggles student-teaching, coaching and training 80 to 90 miles a week all at the same time.  He's a remarkable young man and a great representative of Duke University."
