DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke track and field team prepares to host the annual Duke Invitational Friday and Saturday April 5-6 in Durham, N.C. Seventy Blue Devils are registered to compete in a variety of events at the two-day event held in Wallace Wade Stadium on Duke University’s west campus.

The weekend will begin with the men’s hammer event where redshirt sophomore and freshman Michael Foley will look to improve their marks from a week ago.  In his Duke debut at the Raleigh Relays, Foley finished fifth with a personal-best throw of 185-4 (56.50).  The mark also placed second on Duke’s all-time list.

On the women’s side, the shot put will include redshirt junior Michelle Anumba, juniors Erica Brand and Miray Seward and redshirt freshman Karli Johonnot. This event is one of four that Seward and Johonnot will participate in as they continue to train for multi-event competition.

In other field events, the Blue Devils will look for success in the men’s and women’s pole vault.   Junior Justin Amezquita cleared an outdoor personal-best 17-1 (5.21) at the Texas Relays, moving him less than two inches away from the school record set by Brent Warner in 2004.   He will be joined by the men’s multi-event contingent of redshirt junior Curtis Beach, sophomore Ian Rock and freshman Robert Rohner.  Beach also set a personal record in the men’s pole vault, clearing 16-8.75 (5.10) on his way to finishing first in the men’s decathlon in Austin, Texas.

In the women’s pole vault, senior Emily Mattoon, sophomore Stephanie Skove and freshman Megan Clark are prepared to compete.  Last weekend, Mattoon set a personal record mark by clearing 13-1.75 (4.01) placing her fourth on Duke’s all-time list and third at the Texas Relays.

Junior Courtney Kedra will be joined by Johonnot, Seward and sophomore Baily Murphy in the women’s long jump.  At the HPU Vertklasse Meeting, Murphy jumped a personal best 18-0.25 (5.49) to place fifth on Duke’s all-time list.

In the sprints, sophomores Elizabeth Kerpon, Alexis Roper and Lauren Hansson along with freshman Cameron Blount will race in the women’s 200 meter dash while senior Marcus Wright and junior Ben Raskin will represent the men.

The women’s team will also return its 4x100m relay which broke the school record two weeks ago at the HPU Vertklasse Meeting in High Point, N.C.  The team of senior LaCresha Styles, Murphy, Hansson and Kerpon will attempt to improve its time again this weekend.

The distance events will be highlighted by the women’s 800m featuring 2013 All-America honoree Cydney Ross and All-ACC honoree Anima Banks.  The duo will be joined by seniors Leslie Morrison, juniors Rebecca Craigie, Gabby Levac, Jessie Rubin and Brianna Welch and sophomore Abby Farley.  This is the first time Ross has competed since finishing sixth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and setting a school record of 2:04.52.

In the men’s 5,000m, seniors James Kostelnik and Mike Moverman will be joined by juniors Brian Atkinson, Phil Fairleigh, Spencer Pecha and Lucas Talavan-Becker and freshman William Hague Friday evening to highlight the field.

A full recap will be available on www.GoDuke.com at the end of each event day.
