DES MOINES, Iowa – Redshirt junior Curtis Beach closed out his season Sunday, June 23 with a 12th place finish in the men’s long jump at the 2013 USA Championships.  His best leap of the day measured 25-3.5 (7.71)

The Albuquerque, N.M., native earned the mark, which is the second-best of his career, on his second jump of the competition.  Beach broke the school record in the event with a personal best leap of 25-7.50 (7.81) at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships a few weeks ago.  His second attempt was his only mark to measure more than 25 feet.

After a disappointing fourth place finish in the 1,500 meters Saturday, Shannon Rowbury bounced back and was able to finish third in the 5,000 to earn a qualifying spot for the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow August 10-18.  The San Franscico, Calif., native crossed the line in 15:37.27 to earn the final qualifying spot in the event.

Duke Alum Kate Van Buskirk also earned a qualifying spot for the 2013 IAAF World Championship and picked up her first national title at the 2013 Canadian Track and Field Championship in Moncton, New Brunswick.  The Brampton, Ontario native led the field by crossing the line first in 4:16.45.
