DURHAM, N.C. -- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the regional and national rankings Tuesday morning, with the Duke men’s track and field team sitting at No. 1 in the Southeast Region and No. 38 in the nation. The Duke women’s track and field team remained at No. 2 in the Southeast Region while moving up six positions to No. 29 in the nation. The rankings come just two days after strong performances by both teams at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y., and the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va.

The Duke women’s track and field team currently ranks nationally ahead of all ACC opponents other than No. 27 Florida State, while the Duke men’s track and field team sits ahead of all conference opponents other than No. 6 Florida State, No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 34 Virginia Tech and No. 37 Pittsburgh.

The Duke men’s and women’s track and field teams boast a combined eight competitors who rank among the top 10 in the nation in their respective events. Sophomore Megan Clark headlines the Blue Devils in the national rankings after posting a height of 14-3.50 (4.36) in the pole vault on Feb. 7, placing her second in the nation after the weekend’s competition. Junior Shaun Thompson (14:03.15) and graduate student Mike Moverman (14:07.38) own the fifth and seventh fastest 5,000 meter times in the nation this season after the duo placed first and third, respectively, at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The distance medley relay of sophomore Anima Banks, juniors Elizabeth Kerpon and Abby Farley and graduate student Audrey Huth currently rank eighth in the nation with a time of 11:07.85. Redshirt sophomore Karli Johonnot also ranks eighth in the pentathlon with a school-record point total of 4,038.

The Blue Devils return to competition Friday Feb. 14, with competitors traveling to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and Saturday, Feb. 15, with members of the Duke track and field team competing at the Millrose Games in New York, N.Y.
