MOSCOW – Former Duke Blue Devil Kate Van Buskirk recently participated in her first International Association of Athletics Federations World Championship meet, reaching the semifinals of the 1,500-meter run held Tuesday, August 13.
Two days earlier, Van Buskirk ran a qualifying time of 4:08.65 to advance to the semifinal of the competition. Van Buskirk entered the round with the 18th fastest qualifying time. The Duke alum narrowly missed qualifying for the final, in spite of a personal best mark of 4:07.36. Finishing sixth in her heat, the Brampton, Ontario native was one place and six-hundredths of a second away from qualifying for the 1,500 meter final.
Van Buskirk’s effort at the IAAF World Championship competition bested her fastest collegiate 1,500 meter time of 4:15.37 by nearly eight seconds.
The final for the 1,500 meter race is slated for Thursday, August 15.
