DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Michelle Anumba to learn more about the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Michelle Anumba: This sounds bad but I like getting the free gear. I also like the environment, especially around basketball season and I just like how everyone is smart and nerdy at Duke.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite competition-related memory?
MA: I think my favorite might be ACC Outdoor Championships two years ago when it was at UVA. I had my best throw of the season on my first attempt, and usually it’s not my first throw. Then I won ACC’s that year too, so that was fun.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite memory away from competition?
MA: I would say graduating and then also getting into physical therapy school.
GoDuke.com: Name three of your favorite restaurants in Durham.
MA: First one has to be Dame’s Chicken and Waffles. The second one has to be Bali Hai, the Mongolian place on 9th street. And third, Cookout.
GoDuke.com: If you could travel to any three places in the world where would you travel?
AB: I would go to California. I lived in California but the weather’s awesome there. I would also like to go to Spain to work on my Spanish skills. And then maybe the Bahamas or something fun.
GoDuke.com: If you could only eat three foods for the rest of your life what would they be?
MA: Chicken, Vegetables, and maybe sweet potato fries.
GoDuke.com: If you could have dinner with any three people who would those people be?
MA: My best friend from home, the president, and Coach K.
GoDuke.com: What are three things that motivate you to perform?
MA: Reaching my potential, just the whole team environment and the competition.
