DURHAM, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference named graduate student Juliet Bottorff Performer of the Week Tuesday following a record-setting performance at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Stanford, Calif., over the weekend. The honor is the first of the season for Bottorff.

Bottorff clocked a school-record time of 32:25.69 in section one of the women’s 10,000 Sunday, placing her 14th in a field comprised almost entirely of professional runners. The Newark, Del., native finished second among her collegiate competitors. Bottorff’s time, a personal best by over 28 seconds, eclipsed the previous Duke record of 32:40.70, which Ellen Reynolds set in 1986. The finishing time ranks third in the nation this season.

Two weeks earlier, Bottorff earned the first ACC women’s 10,000-meter title in Duke history, winning the event at the conference championship in Chapel Hill, N.C. Bottorff earned the victory in spectacular fashion, running a meet-record time of 32:53.72.

The Duke track and field team returns to competition this weekend, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Challenge.
