DURHAM, N.C. – Fresh off a come from behind victory at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship, the Duke men’s golf team was tabbed at No. 10 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll, as announced by the organization Wednesday. The Blue Devils have now notched five wins this season, including their first conference championship since 2005.
California leads the way in the poll after claiming nine wins in 11 events this season, while Alabama, Texas, UCLA and New Mexico round out the top-five respectively. The ACC is represented by three schools in the top-25, with Georgia Tech leading the way at No. 9 and Florida State a few spots behind at No. 13.
After entering the final day trailing Florida State by four shots, Duke posted a four-under par, 284, to take the crown at the ACC Championship April 26-28. Senior Adam Sumrall fired a final round 70 to finish in fifth place, leading the squad with a three-day total of eight under par, 208. Fellow seniors Brinson Paolini and Julian Suri both tied for seventh place after recording five-under par, 211, while junior Austin Cody and freshman Mads Soegaard both carded one-under par, 215, to finish tied for 17th.
The Blue Devils will next compete in NCAA Regionals May 16-18 at an undetermined location. The NCAA Selection show for the Regional competition is set to take place May 6th at 9 p.m. The show can be viewed live on www.ncaa.com.
