DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Tim Gornik of the Duke men’s golf team recently sat down with GoDuke.com to discuss highlights throughout his golf career. Gornik owns four top-20 finishes this season, including a third-place finish at the Trojan.
GoDuke.com: What kind of clubs do you play?
Tim Gornik: I have 16 clubs, but depending on which course we play I decide which 14 I want to play with. My irons are TaylorMade. My rescue, three-wood and driver are all TaylorMade, my three wedges, 52-degree, 56-degree and a 60-degree are all TaylorMade. My putter is a Scotty Cameron. What I do, depending on the course, is decide between a rescue and a three iron or a rescue and a two iron.
GoDuke.com: What kind of pre-round superstitions do you have before tournaments?
TG: I always keep it the same. I like to putt for 15 minutes, chip for 15 minutes, hit golf balls. I always have to make the last short putt I attempt before I go out to the golf course.
GoDuke.com: Is there a shot that sticks out in your mind that you have hit under pressure?
TG: A putt last year at the match play, probably 24-feet. I made it in the playoff for us to go into the finals.
GoDuke.com: How many hole-in-ones have you had?
GoDuke.com: What is your go to shot?
TG: I like to hit a three quarter draw.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite club?
TG: Probably my five iron and driver.
GoDuke.com: Do you have a ball mark with any special significance?
TG: I always use a quarter that I mark my ball with. They are always from the ‘60s. I think it puts a good vibe out there; you want to shoot in the ‘60s.
