Paolini Final Bio

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s Brinson Paolini was named third team All-America by Golfweek Thursday, becoming the sixth Blue Devil to earn All-America honors twice in a career. Paolini, an honorable mention All-America in 2011, finished in the top 20 in all 11 stroke-play events this season, while leading Duke to a school-record five tournament titles.

Golfweek’s All-America teams are determined by players’ order in the final Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. Paolini finished the season No. 22 overall in the rankings.

Paolini, who also earned third team CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-America honors Thursday, becomes the first Duke player to earn Academic All-America and All-America in the same season. He along with Matt Krauss (1999-02) are the only Blue Devils to garner both Academic All-America and All-America honors in their respective careers.

Paolini finished the 2012-13 season with a 71.5 stroke average and 16 under-par rounds. The Virginia Beach, Va., native recorded eight rounds in the 60s and also posted a counting team score in 29 of 31 rounds played. Paolini had four top 5 finishes as a senior including a tie for second at the Olympia Fields / Fighting Illini Invitational and a second place showing at the Wolfpack Spring Open. He fired a five-under 211 at the ACC Championship to become just the third Blue Devil in school history to finish in the top 10 at the ACC Championship three times.

For his career, Paolini played  a total of 133 rounds over 45 tournaments and registered a 72.17 career stroke average (second all-time at Duke). The two-time All-ACC honoree and 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year is scattered throughout the record books ranking in the top five in rounds in the 60s, under-par rounds, even-par or better rounds, even-par rounds, top 5 finishes, top 10 finishes and top 20 finishes. Paolini also owns four of Duke’s top 10 seasons of percentage of fairways hit.

Michael Kim headlines Golfweek’s list of All-Americans for the 2012-13 season. Kim, a California sophomore who already has won the Jack Nicklaus Award for this season, is one of five Cal players to earn All-America honors, but the only Golden Bear on the first team.

Kim is joined on the first team by Texas freshman Brandon Stone, Julien Brun (TCU), Daniel Berger (Florida State), Sean Dale (North Florida), Patrick Rodgers (Stanford), Ben Hogan award winner Chris Williams (Washington) as well as three members (Bobby Wyatt, Cory Whitsett, Justin Thomas) from Alabama’s national championship team.

Paolini is one of five ACC players on Golfweek’s 30-player All-America teams.
