STATESBORO, GA -- Sophomore Motin Yeung fired an opening round three-under 69 to pace Duke to a 297 (+9) in the opening round of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club. Yeung is tied for third overall while the Blue Devils will enter tomorrow's second round tied for 11th.

"I am really proud of Motin and his round today," said head coach Jamie Green. "He played really steady golf. He was level headed and made a lot of calm decisions. He stayed nice and steady all day long and that allowed for the birdies to come. His distance control on the greens was great and on these greens that is what really separates players and teams."

No. 14 UAB holds the 18-hole lead after shooting a three-under 285. Georgia Southern is one shot back with No. 10 Virginia, No. 15 Texas, College of Charleston and Mississippi tied for third at two-over 290.

Taylor Hancock (North Florida) and David Snyder (Kentucky) share the individual lead at four-under with five players, including Duke's Yeung, one shot back.

With Duke opening play on the back nine, Yeung carded a birdie on the par 4 11th hole to get into red figures early in the day. Following three straight pars he suffered his lone blemish of the round with a double-bogey on No. 15 (par 3). Yeung recovered with a birdie on No. 16 and moved back to one-under with another birdie on No. 4. The Beijing native closed in excellent fashion with birdies on the par 5 seventh and ninth holes for his team-leading sixth under-par round of the season.

Senior Austin Cody posted is best-round of the season while playing as an individual. The North Charleston, S.C., native shot an even-par 72 to move into a tie for 17th. He played his opening nine holes at one-under with two birdies, six pars and a bogey. He ran into trouble after the turn with a double-bogey on No. 1 and a bogey on No. 2 to slip to two-over. He recovered with birdies on No. 4 and No. 7 for his first even-par round of the year.

Michael Ricaurte, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, is tied for 29th after carding a two-over 74 in the first round. He go off to a slow start with two bogeys and a double-bogey on the opening four holes of play. After making the turn at five-over, Ricaurte righted the ship on his final nine holes of play. He birdied No. 2 and No. 3 before suffering a bogey on the par 4 fourth hole. Ricaurte added birdies on No. 5 and No. 7 before closing with a pair of pars.

Freshman Alexander Matlari posted a four-over 76 and is tied for 57th overall. He suffered a triple-bogey on his second hole of the day and had three straight bogeys just after the turn to derail an otherwise steady round. Matlari carded 12 pars with birdies on the par 3 sixth and 15th holes.

Max Greyserman registered a six-over 78 on the day. He had four bogeys on the opening six holes before stabilizing the round with birdies on No. 16, No. 17 and No. 1 to get back to one-over. He struggled down the stretch with three more bogeys and a double-bogey.
