DURHAM, N.C. -- Wes Roach, a 2011 Duke graduate, fired a 13-under 271 to finish tied for 16th at this weekend's Web.com Tour final regular season event the Cox Classic presented by Lexus of Omaha. The top 20 finish at the event helped propel Roach into the top 25 of the tour's money list and secure his PGA Tour membership card for the 2013-14 season.
Roach finished the Web.com Tour regular season 22nd on the money list with $145,098 in earnings. Michael Putnam was the regular season’s leading money winner. His reward is fully exempt status for the upcoming PGA TOUR season and an invitation to THE PLAYERS Championship next May. Putnam earned $450,184. Ben Martin was No. 2 with $399,769.
The first 25 of 50 available PGA TOUR membership cards for the 2013-14 season were assured Sunday.
Roach now enters the Web.com Tour Playoffs, a four-week stretch that includes the Hotel Fitness Championship (Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at Sycamore Hills GC in Fort Wayne, Ind.), Chiquita Classic (Sept. 5-8 at River Run CC in Davidson, N.C.), Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship (Sept. 12-15 at Ohio State Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio) and the Web.com Tour Championship (Sept. 26-29 at Dye's Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.).
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Roach has made 13 cuts on the Web.com Tour this season with seven top 25 finishes and three top 10 showings. He recorded a career best tie for second at the Mexico Championship presented by Banamex in May.
Roach is ranked fifth on the Web.com Tour in total driving while also ranking in the top 25 in driving distance, birdie average, scoring average, sand save percentage, scoring average before cut, round 3 scoring average, total birdies, consecutive cuts, top 10 finishes, ball striking and longest drive.
