DURHAM, N.C. -- Former Duke standouts Ryan Blaum and Joe Ogilvie advanced through sectional qualifying Monday to make the field for the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. They will be joined in the field by fellow Duke grad Kevin Streelman, who received an exception by virtue of qualifying for the 2013 Tour Championship and ranking in the top 60 of the World Golf Rankings.

Blaum, a three-time All-America selection as a Blue Devil, fired a two-under 140 to tie for 14th in sectional qualifying at the Brookside Golf & Country Club and Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. He opened up on the Scioto course with a one-under 69 taking advantage of three birdies over a four-hole stretch on the front nine. In the afternoon round at Brookside, Blaum birdied No. 2 and No. 3 to climb to two-under. He added a birdie on the par 4 12th hole to put himself in solid position to advance with six holes remaining. Blaum suffered setbacks with bogeys on No. 14 and No. 18 to close with a one-under 71.

With 16 players advancing out of the 120 player field, Blaum entered a five-man playoff for the final three spots in the U.S. Open field. He quickly recovered from his sluggish finish to the seocnd round and secured his spot in the Open field with a 30-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a 5-for-3 playoff.

Justin Leonard, Seung Yul Noh and Justin Thomas shared medalist honors in Columbus with five-under 137s, while Rob Pampling, Bo Van Pelt, Mark Wilson, Paul Casey and Luke Guthrie were tied for fourth and one-shot back. Also advancing from the Columbus sectional were Kevin Tway, Robert Allenby, Aaron Baddeley, Hyung Sung Kim, Brett Stegmaier, Ken Duke, Blaum and Erik Compton.

Blaum will be playing in his second U.S. Open after also appearing in the event in 2009 on the Black Course of Bethpage State Park on Long Island.

Ogilvie, an honorable mention All-America at Duke in 1995, posted an eight-under 135 at Colonial Country Club in Memphis to tie for third and advance to his xxth U.S. Open. The PGA Tour veteran opened the day with a five-under 66 on the North course before carding a three-under 69 on the South course in the afternoon. He got off to the terrific start in the morning round with birdies on No. 1, No. 4, No. 6 and No. 7 to move to four-under. Ogilvie tacked on birdie on No. 10 and No. 13 to move deeper into red figures. He dropped a stroke with a bogey on No. 14 before closing with a birdie-bogey finish to card one of the top rounds on the North course in the morning.

Ogilvie started well again in the second round with three birdies (No. 3, No. 6 & No. 9) on the front side of the South course. He dropped a stroke with a bogey on No. 10 but quickly moved back to three-under with a birdie on the par 4 11th hole. Ogilvie carded his second bogey of the round on No. 13 before settling in with four straight pars and a birdie on the par 5 18th hole.

Ogilvie will be playing in his seventh U.S. Open, including the 2005 Open at Pinehurst. He also played in the U.S. Open in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2013. He has made three U.S. Open cuts with a top finish of tie for 36th in 2008.

Hudson Swafford claimed medalist honors in Memphis with a 10-under 133 with J.B. Holmes one shot back and Ogilvie in a group of five players tied for third. Cody Gribble, Robby Shelton, Jason Millard, Casey Wittenberg, Brady Watt and Hunter Stewart were also among the 13 players to advance to the Open out of the 145-player field in Memphis.

The 2014 U.S. Open will be played at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina June 12-15. Pinehurst No. 2 also hosted the U.S. Open in 1999 and 2005.
