Duke Finishes Seventh at Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Duke men's golf finished seventh at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters with 30-over 864. Sophomore Austin Cody paced the Blue Devils in the final round with one-under 72, while junior Julian Suri posted three-over 75.

Behind the outstanding final-round play of sophomore Blake Biddle (-3, 69) host UNLV captured the team title edging California by one stroke. UNLV posted eight-over (+8, 872) for the weekend, while California carded nine-over (+9, 873). Rounding out the top five team leader board for the tournament were UCLA (+18, 882), Texas A&M (+21, 885) and Stanford (+24, 888).

Julian Suri posted a three-over 75 on Sunday to finish tied for fifth with a one-over 216.  The St. Augustine, Fla., native now has five top 10 finishes for the 2011-12 campaign. Suri carded 14 pars and one birdie in the final round of play while suffering bogeys on No. 15, No. 2 and a double-bogey No. 9.

Entering the final round at eve-par, Paolini carded a closing round of 10-over (82) to finish the weekend tied for 33rd with a score of 226 (+10). The junior from Virginia Beach, Va., posted eight pars, eight bogeys, and one double-bogey.

Austin Cody fired one-under par on Sunday to finish tied for 42nd with 11-over 216. The sophomore from North Charleston, S.C., carded 11 pars and suffered three bogeys while collecting four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4, to finish strong.

Spencer Anderson, a senior from Pacific Palisades, Calif., collected nine pars, one birdie while suffering six bogeys and two double-bogeys to finish nine-over par in the final round of the tournament. Anderson finished in 60th at 18-over 216.

Yaroslav Merkulov started his final round of play slow, bogeying four of his first 11 holes before collecting two birdies to finish the day three-over par.  The Penfield N.Y., native, finished the weekend tied for 48th with 13-over 216.

The Duke Blue Devils return to action next week (March 18-20) at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at the Concession Golf Club in Brandenton, Fla.
