DURHAM, N.C. -- Sophomore Motin Yeung fired rounds of 68 and 73 Monday to pace Duke to a two-over 578 on the opening day of The Farms Collegiate Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Sancho Sante Fe, Calif. The Blue Devils posted a seven-under 281 in the opening round before carding a 297 in the afternoon round.

San Diego holds a three shot lead over Duke with 18 holes remaining. The Toreros recorded rounds of 283 and 292. Kennesaw State is third with a four-over 580 with Pacific (589) and Santa Clara (590) rounding out the top five. UC Riverside (591), St. Mary's (594), Fresno State (594), Loyola Marymount (597), UC Santa Barbara (603), Denver (604) and San Francisco (606) complete the tournament leaderboard.

Grant Forrest (San Diego) holds the individual lead with a five-under 139 with Jimmy Beck (Kennesaw State) one shot back. Yeung is two shots back with a three-under 141, while teammate Alexander Matlari is tied for sixth at one-under. Duke and host San Diego are the only schools with two or more players under-par through 36 holes of play.

Yeung carded 10 birdies on the day, including seven red figures during an opening round 68 (-4). He opened the tournament with back-to-back birdies before slipping back to even-par after six holes of play. Yeung caught fire near the turn and rattled off birdies on No. 9, No. 10, No. 11 and No. 13 to get to four-under. He capped off round one with six straight pars for his team-leading fifth under-par round. The Beijing, China, native moved all the way to seven-under on the day with birdies on No. 4, No. 9 and No. 10 in the second round. Yeung ran out of steam on the back-nine of the afternoon round posting two bogeys and a double-bogey to finish with a one-over 73.

Matlari, a freshman from Leimen, Germany, carded five birdies in round one with just one blemish, a double-bogey on No. 13, for a season-best 69 (-3). The Blue Devil freshman closed the opening round in terrific fashion with three birdies over the final four holes. In the afternoon session, Matlari suffered five bogeys but added an eagle on the par 5 ninth hole and a birdie on the par 5 18th hole for a two-over 74.

Freshman Max Greyserman is tied for 35th after collecting a 74-77=151 (+7) at The Farms Golf Club. The New Jersey native registered eight birdies on the day but was hampered by four double-bogeys. Greyserman was particularly effective on the par threes, collecting four birdies on the short holes.

Juniors Michael Ricaurte and Turner Southey-Gordon had big swings between their rounds Monday. Ricaurte opened up with a two-under 70 before posting an 86 in round two. Southey-Gordon had an 84 in the opening round before recovering with a one-over 73 in the afternoon. Ricaurte had four birdies in round one but could not rebound in the second round after opening with three bogeys and a double-bogeys. The Columbus, Ohio, native is tied for 53rd at 12-over entering the final round of play.

Southey-Gordon is tied for 57th at 13-over. He collected seven birdies in the opening two rounds but could not overcome five double-bogeys and a triple-bogey.

Austin Cody, a senior from South Carolina, is tied for 48th at 10-over after shooting 80-74. He had three birdies and 22 pars on the opening day while playing outside the Duke lineup. Freshman Andrew Bieber, also playing as an individual, is tied for 64th after rounds of 86 and 79.

Duke opens third round action Tuesday at 9:12 a.m. off the front side of The Farms Golf Club. The Blue Devils will be paired with Kennesaw State and San Diego for final round action.
