DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off capturing the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship over the weekend at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Duke women’s golf team moved to No. 8 in the latest Golf World/NGCA Division I College Women’s Coaches’ Poll.
UCLA remained the No. 1 in the poll receiving 23 first place votes, while Alabama, Arizona State, Southern California, Auburn, LSU, North Carolina, Duke, Vanderbilt and Georgia rounded out the top 10.
Over the last two tournaments, Duke has won the ACC Championship and tied for first with Tennessee before falling in a playoff at the Bryan National Collegiate. The Blue Devils have won two tournaments this season under head coach Dan Brooks, who now owns 112 career wins at Duke.
Lindy Duncan, the No. 1 ranked golfer in the nation, registered her fourth victory of the season and sixth of her career last weekend at the ACC Championship. She posted rounds of 70, 69 and 71 for a total of 210. Duncan’s 70.71 stroke average on the season is on pace to break the single-season record at Duke, which is held by Amanda Blumenherst (71.00).
The Blue Devils await the NCAA Regional selection, which will take place on Monday, April 30 at 9:00 p.m. (EST). The regional sites for 2012 are Penn State, Ohio State and Colorado.
