DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's golf team will take a short break before returning to action March 29-31 at the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament in Greensboro, N.C.  Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior golfer Courtney Ellenbogen to learn more about the Blackburg, Va., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Courtney Ellenbogen: Being able to be a three-time academic All-American. I think it showcases how well Duke prepares its athletes on and off the field.

GoDuke.com: What is the most misunderstood thing about golf?
CE: That golf doesn't require any athletic ability. Golf requires not only hand-eye coordination, but you also need to be in shape. People underestimate the mental aspect required to be an athlete, and golf is one of the most mental games out there.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
CE: I think it is mostly hanging out with my team. It has been a great way for me to have a good support group around me and to have a good time while being able to play the sport that I love.

GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite class at Duke?
CE: The history of modern terrorism was pretty interesting for me. It was relevant to the modern day.

GoDuke.com: What has been your most challenging class at Duke?
CE: My Econometrics class for my economics major was pretty tough. I am not a huge fan of statistics and it was a stat class.

GoDuke.com: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? What do you want to be now?
CE: I have always wanted to be a professional golfer. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to play professionally. Next year, I am going into banking.

GoDuke.com: Tell us about a time when you started playing your sport.
CE: I was unusual from most girls who start to play golf, because I didn't start because of my dad. I started because the country club where I lived had a good junior golf program and the pro that worked there was good about teaching juniors. I started going to junior clinics there. I enjoyed the competition and beating the boys.

GoDuke.com: Are there any professional golfers that you have admired?
CE: I have always liked Luke Donald because his game is really consistent. He has a great golf swing and his scores show it. He hasn't done as well in the majors, but his consistency has really allowed him to be successful year in and year out.

GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
CE: My dad has had the biggest influence on my golf game and my career outside of golf, and he has always helped me to push myself with whatever I am doing.

GoDuke.com: What sport other than your own would you play?
CE: I would love to be a skier. I love skiing and used to want to be a ski bum. I grew up in the mountains of Virginia, where there wasn't very good skiing. We would go west to Colorado every year and skied out there. I fell in love with Colorado and the mountains.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any hidden talents?
CE: It is not really hidden, but I can play the piano pretty well, which a lot of people don't know. I have been playing piano as long as I have been playing golf. While it is not the most well-known thing that I do, it is still one of my greatest hobbies.
