Lindy Duncan will kick off the 2012 Curtis Cup on Friday, June 8 as the United States will take on Great Britain and Ireland at the The Nairn Golf Club in Scotland. The competition will go from June 8-10.DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University women’s golf standout
Along with Duncan, Amy Anderson, Austin Ernst, Tiffany Lua, Lisa McCloskey, Brooke Pancake, Erica Popson and Emily Tubert are on the eight-member U.S. squad.
Duncan is the 12th different Blue Devil to be selected to represent the U.S. in the Curtis Cup.
The Curtis Cup is a biennial international women’s amateur golf competition between eight-player teams from the United States of America and Great Britain and Ireland. The USA won the 2010 Match at Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass., 12.5-7.5.
Duncan, who is a product of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is coming being named the PING NGCA National Player of the Year this past collegiate season with the Blue Devils. She netted four victories, a 71.07 stroke average, 10 top 10 finishes and six top five placements.
She also won the Golfstat Cup and was a first team All-America selection for the third straight season. In the Duke single season record book, Duncan ranked second in stroke average (71.07), tied for third in wins (4), first in third round scoring average (69.22) and second in even or under par rounds (21).
Away from college, Duncan has been very successful as she was a semifinalist in the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the age of 15. She also finished as second-lowest amateur at the 2011 Women’s Open.
The Curtis Cup Match consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition. The USA Team has won the last seven Matches and leads the series, 27-6-3.
