PINEHURST, N.C. - After carding two match play wins on Friday, Duke University junior Alejandra Cangrejo advanced to the semifinals of the 110th North & South Women’s Amateur at the Pinehurst No. 2 Course in Pinehurst, N.C.

On Friday morning, Cangrejo notched a 10 & 8 victory over Isabelle Lendl as Lendl was forced to withdraw due to an illness.

Eighth-seeded Cangrejo moved on to the elite eight to face top-seeded Jaye Marie Green.  Cangrejo never trailed in the match as she took a 1-up lead on the 507-yard, par five fourth hole with a birdie and never looked back.

A native of Bogota, Colombia, Cangrejo registered a par on the sixth hole to take a 2-up lead and posted another par on No. 8 to go 3-up.  She closed the match with a par on No. 15 and won by a 4 & 3 ledger.

Cangrejo will take on fifth-seeded Doris Chen on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m., in the semifinals.  In the other semifinal match, Austin Ernst will face Ashley Armstrong.  The finals will take place on Saturday afternoon.
