DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off helping lead Duke to its sixth NCAA Championship, Blue Devil sophomore Celine Boutier has been named one of four finalists for the Honda Sports Award for women’s golf Wednesday, which was announced by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) Wednesday afternoon.

Other nominees along with Boutier include Doris Chen (Southern California), Annie Park (Southern California) and Alison Lee (UCLA).

A native of Montrouge, France, Boutier was recently named the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) National Player of the Year, following a runner-up placement at the NCAA Championship.  She totaled a 71.50 stroke average, three victories, six top five finishes and seven top 10 placements on the year.

Boutier was the hottest golfer in the nation during the spring posting three wins and a 70.77 stroke average in seven tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championship.  The ACC Player of the Year led Duke on the season with 20 rounds of even or under par, including seven rounds in the 60s.

The Honda Sports Award is presented annually by the CWSA to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.”  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2014 Honda Cup. The nominees were chosen by their NCAA Championship finish and golf rankings.

The Honda Sports award winner for golf will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Duke golfers have won the Honda Award on five different occasions – Amanda Blumenherst (2007-08, 2006-07), Anna Grzebien (2004-05), Virada Nirapathpongporn (2001-02) and Candy Hannemann (2000-01).
