DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University standouts Celine Boutier and Gurbani Singh have traveled across the world to Karuizawa, Japan to compete in the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship from Sept. 3-6 at the Oshitate and Iriyama Courses.  Boutier will represent her country of France, while Singh will play for India.

All 50 countries competing will go through a 72-hole format with 18 holes played each day.  In each round, the total of the two lowest scorers by players from each team constitutes the team score for that round.  The four-day total is the team’s score for the championship.

Along with Boutier competing for France will be Mathilda Cappeliez and Manon Gidali.  Boutier, a junior from Montrouge, France, is coming off guiding France to the European Ladies Amateur Team Championship in Slovenia this past July.

A freshman from New Delhi, India, Singh will compete with India along with Astha Madan and Aditi Ashok.  Singh is a two-time winner of All India Junior Golf Championship and is a winner of 16 amateur titles and numerous junior championships in India.

The Republic of Korea is the reigning champions from 2012 with a 13-under-par, 563, which was played in Antalya, Turkey.

Following the championship, the Blue Devil duo will return to Durham to compete in the 2014 fall opener Sept. 14-16 in Charleston, S.C.
