FRANKLIN, Tenn. -  Coming off finishing strong in the final round of the NCAA Championship on Friday, the Duke women’s golf team attended the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) banquet at the Embassy Suites hotel in Franklin, Tenn.

Blue Devil junior Lindy Duncan took top honors as she was named the winner of the PING NGCA National Player of the Year, winner of the Golfstat Cup, NGCA First Team All-America and a NGCA All-East Region selection.

Duncan closed out one of the top individual seasons in school history on Friday in which she won four tournaments, had 10 top 10 finishes, posted 10 rounds in the 60s, 21 rounds of even or under par and a 71.07 stroke average.  Her 71.07 stroke average is the second-best in school history and missed matching the Duke single-season school-record by .07.  Amanda Blumenherst holds the Blue Devil mark of 71.00 that she set in 2007-08 and 2006-07.

With Duncan being named the National Player of the Year, she became just the third Blue Devil to win the award -- Liz Janangelo (2003-04) and Amanda Blumenherst (2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08).

Her 71.07 stroke average led her to winning the Golfstat Cup, which marked the fourth Duke golfer to win the cup and the sixth overall Blue Devil to take home the award -- Jenny Chuasiriporn (1997-98), Janangelo (2003-04), Blumenherst (2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08).

Duncan received her third NGCA First Team All-America honor on Friday becoming only the fifth Duke golfer to be named First Team All-America three times  -- Blumenherst, Janangelo, Virada Nirapathpongporn and Chuasiriporn.

In the Duke single season record book, Duncan ranked second in stroke average (71.07), tied for third in wins (4), first in third round scoring average (69.22) and second in even or under par rounds (21).

With one year remaining, she ranks tied for fifth in wins (6), fifth in top 10 finishes (25), tied for second in even or under par rounds (55), eighth in top 20 finishes (30) and fifth in top 10 finishes (25).

Duncan closed the NCAA Championship with four birdies over her final five holes on Friday on her way to moving into a tie for sixth place, individually with a total of 290.  She shot rounds of 70, 75, 75 and 70 over the four days.  Over her last two NCAA Championships, Duncan has placed tied sixth and tied eighth.  She will enter her senior campaign with 13 straight top 10 placements.

As a team, Duke turned in a 15th place finish at the championship.  The Blue Devils will return all six golfers for the 2012-13 campaign, while welcoming in a solid recruiting class under head coach Dan Brooks.
