Dan Brooks announced on Monday the addition of Ashley Xiao from China to the 2012-13 roster.DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University women’s golf head coach
“Ashley was a very nice surprise,” said Brooks. “She is someone we found out about and loved her when she visited. She is a very mature person and has a lot of game. She has a very nice swing and technique. Ashley came highly recommended and has some good numbers. Those things are what sold us on her.”
A member of the Chinese National Team from 2009-11, Xiao owns seven career tournament victories. Xiao, who is a 5-8 product of Guangzhou, Guangdong in China, last won the Grand Final of Mission Hills Junior Series title in 2012 with rounds of 66, 73 and 69 for a total of 208. She played in the 2008 World Amateur Golf Team Championship for the People’s Republic of China.
With the addition of Xiao, Brooks will feature a roster of eight in 2012-13. After not having any seniors on the roster a year ago, the Blue Devils will have three next season -- Lindy Duncan, Courtney Ellenbogen and Stacey Kim. Duke will have two juniors -- Laetitia Beck and Alejandra Cangrejo -- along with sophomore Irene Jung. Celine Boutier will join Xiao as freshman on the team.
Duke is coming off advancing to the NCAA Championship for the 24th time in school history and winning the ACC Championship for the 17th time. Brooks was named the ACC Coach of the Year, which marks the 12th time he has received the honor.
