Women's Golf to Conclude Regular Season This Weekend

TEMPE, Ariz. – The third-ranked Duke women’s golf team travels to Arizona this week as it prepares to play in the 2013 PING/ASU Invitational April 12-14 at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. The Blue Devils will be joined by 10 teams ranked in the most recent Golf World/WGCA poll, including five other teams ranked in the top 10.

Other teams competing this weekend will be Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, UC Davis, UCLA, UNLV, Southern California and Washington.

Duke is coming off a ninth place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C., where the squad carded rounds of 297, 307 and 290 to post a 30-over par, 894. Junior Laetitia Beck led the way for the Blue Devils, firing a final round 71 to finish tied for seventh place at three-over par. Beck, a native of Caesarea, Israel, has recorded a team-best seven even or under par rounds this year, while posting a 73.56 stroke average.

Senior Lindy Duncan missed the Bryan National Collegiate while playing in the LPGA’s first major of the year, the Kraft/Nabisco Championship where she carded scores of 81 and 69 in the opening rounds.  She missed the cut by only one stroke.  Duncan,  the 2012 PING NGCA National Player of the Year, enters the event with a 72.27 stroke average, including two top-five finishes this season.

Joining Beck and Duncan in the lineup for the Blue Devils are senior Courtney Ellenbogen, junior Alejandra Cangrejo and freshman Celine Boutier. Ellenbogen enters Friday’s first round with a 75.67 stroke average, while Cangrejo owns a 74.56 average. Boutier, a native of Montrouge, France, has recorded a 74.06 stroke average, highlighted by a tied for fifth place finish at the Landfall Tradition.

Play is set to begin at the par 72, 6,223 yard Karsten Golf Course Friday, April 12 and will continue with 18 holes both Saturday and Sunday. This will be the final regular season tournament of the season before playing in the ACC Championship from April 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C.
