PINEHURST, N.C. –  Following 36 holes at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open, Duke University two-time All-America Brittany Lang will continue playing over the weekend, while rising junior Celine Boutier missed the cut at the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2 in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C.

Lang turned in rounds of 73 and 75 for a total of 148 and is tied 50th overall.  She hit 11-of-14 fairways Friday, while turning in 35 putts on the challenging course.  Lang, who was a 2004 and 2005 All-America at Duke, made her seventh straight cut at the U.S. Women’s Open.

In her first experience at a U.S. Women’s Open, Boutier totaled rounds of 77 and 76 for a 36-hole ledger of 153, which was three shots off the cut.  The reigning National Player of the Year had a solid round, but two double-bogeys over her first seven holes hurt her day.  She played the final 11 holes at one-over-par.  Boutier hit 13-of-14 fairways Friday and hit 10 greens.

“I feel like my game was better than yesterday,” commented Boutier.  “I hit a lot more fairways and my irons were really good. So I feel like I hit a lot more greens and I just had two doubles, except for that, just I played 2-over for the day and I think that's pretty good.”

Only two golfers head to the weekend under par led by Michelle Wie with a four-under-par, 136, while Lexi Thompson is one-under-par, 139, after both golfers fired rounds of 68 on the second day.

“Well, it's always a great way to learn, because I think it's probably one of the toughest courses I've ever played,” said Boutier on the experience this week.  “So it's hard to handle the frustration first, because obviously I'm not going to shoot 5-under on these types of courses, but it's always great to play and I know what I have to work on in the future for the next U.S. Open, hopefully.”
