FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The Duke women's golf team opened the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview on Friday with a 16-ovear-par, 304, and is tied for 12th at the 6,451-yard, par 72 Vanderbilt Legends Club in Fanklin, Tenn.

Southern California posted a four-over-par, 292, while Arizona State (293), UCLA (296), Alabama (296), Vanderbilt (296), North Carolina (298), Arizona (298), LSU (303), Florida (303), Texas A&M (303), Tennessee (303), Duke (304), Arkansas (304) and Virginia (304) rounded out the top 14.  With 36 holes remaining, the Blue Devils are only six shots out of sixth place.

"We didn't have a lot of putts fall today," said Duke Head Coach Dan Brooks.  "Everybody seemed to play tough, stay strong, but we didn't get the putts to fall.  Hopefully they will fall on Saturday in the second round."

As a team, Duke opened with six birdies over the first seven holes, but only had one the rest of the way.

Junior standout Lindy Duncan carded a team-best three-over-par, 75, and is listed tied for 27th overall.  A product of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan posted a bogey to open her day and came back with a birdie on No. 2.  She played the final 16 holes at three-over-par with three bogeys and 13 pars.  Duncan hit 13 fairways, 13 greens and had 34 putts on the day.

Both Alejandra Cangrejo and Laetitia Beck each turned in rounds of 76 in round one and are tied for 42nd overall.  Beck, who is out of Caesarea, Israel, had back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes to get back to one-over-par, but was three-over-par to close out the last 12 holes.  She hit 12 fairways, 12 greens and had 33 putts on Friday.

A native of Bogota, Colombia, Cangrejo was two-under-par through five holes but struggled the rest of the way to finish with a 76.  She notched 34 putts, 12 birdies and 12 fairways on the day.

Playing in her second collegiate tournament, freshman Irene Jung collected a 77.  Jung, who is from Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada, registered one birdie on the day on the 321-yard, par four 17th to go along with six bogies. She is tied for 50th overall.

Junior Stacey Kim had trouble hitting fairways and greens in the first round as she finished with an 81.  She hit only five greens and seven fairways, while totaling 32 putts on the day.

Duke will tee off in the second round beginning at 10:34 a.m., along with Texas A&M and Tennessee.
