Boutier Leads PING/ASU Invite With 18 Holes Left

TEMPE, Ariz. – Duke’s Celine Boutier continued her stellar play at the 2014 PING/ASU Invitational as the sophomore carded a three-under-par, 69, and leads by one stroke with 18 holes remaining at the 6,223-yard, par 72 Arizona State University Karsten Golf Course.

A product of Montrouge, France, Boutier owns a 36-hole total of 138 and leads by one stroke over Washington’s SooBin Kim (139).  Boutier collected four birdies on the front nine and held registered nine straight pars on the back nine on her way to carding her second consecutive round of 69.  She hit 13 greens, 12 fairways and had 28 putts on the day.  Boutier’s back-to-back rounds in the 60s is a first for the 2013 All-America.  

As a team, Duke totaled a four-under-par, 284, on Saturday and is tied second overall with a 574.  South Carolina carded an eight-under-par, 280, on day two and leads the tournament through 36 holes with a 568.  Arizona State (574), Duke (574), Washington (575), Arizona (576), Stanford (580), California (583), UCLA (585), Texas (586) and Oregon (587).  

Senior Laetitia Beck totaled her second straight round of 70 and is tied third overall and only two shots off the individual lead (140).  Beck, who is from Caesarea, Israel, featured an unblemished scorecard on the day with 16 pars and two birdies.  She had her two birdies on No. 9 and No. 14 as she hit 14 greens, eight fairways and had 30 putts.  

Riding a six-tournament streak of finishing in the top 10 since arriving at Duke, freshman Yu Liu will enter the final round tied 30th with rounds of 75 and 72 for a total of 147.  A native of Beijing, China, Liu opened her day with six pars, before suffering bogeys on No. 7 and No. 12.  Liu rolled in a birdie on No. 13 and another one on No. 18 to finish with an even-par, 72.  

Senior Alejanda Cangrejo collected her lowest round since September as the product of Bogota, Colombia, registered 15 pars, one birdie and two bogeys as she finished with an one-over-par, 73.  She is tied 42nd with a 149.  Cangrejo rolled in her lone birdie on the 478-yard, par four 10th hole.  She hit 15 greens, 12 fairways and had 34 putts.  

For the second straight day, freshman Sandy Choi was held without a birdie, but the San Diego, Calif., product turned in a two-over-par, 74, on Saturday.  Choi is tied 52nd overall with a 150 as she posted 16 pars and two bogeys.  

Junior Irene June played as an individual and carded an one-under-par, 71, on the day.  She registered four birdies on the day, including three in a span of four holes on No. 13, No. 15 and No. 16.  Jung is tied 56th overall with a 151.  

Duke will tee off Sunday in the round round beginning at 11:50 (ET) with South Carolina and Arizona State.
