DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men’s tennis head coach Ramsey Smith announced Monday the program’s spring dual match schedule, which includes 18 matchups against teams listed in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings last year.

“I am very excited about our spring schedule,” Smith said. “It is one of the strongest non-conference and conference schedules we have ever had, and it will give our team the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the nation. Our team has a lot of great opportunities to prepare for and look forward to starting in January.”

The Blue Devils kick off the 2014 slate with a six-match homestand, hosting in-state opponent Elon at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in the opener Friday, Jan. 17. Two days later the squad will meet Kentucky for the first time since 2002 and face the Eagles of nearby NC Central in a pair of contests before welcoming North Carolina, Oregon and San Diego State during ITA Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 25-26. Duke will serve as one of 15 host sites for the annual event, with the winning team advancing to the ITA Team Indoors Feb. 14-17 in Houston, Texas.

The team hosts Big Ten opponent Illinois Friday, Jan. 31, and will then hit the road to visit Tennessee Friday, Feb. 7 and Michigan Sunday, Feb. 9. The Blue Devils travel to Richmond, Va., Sunday, March 2 to take on VCU before opening ACC play Sunday, March 9 at NC State. Later in the week, Duke will make a trip across the country to face San Diego State Thursday, March 13 and Oklahoma Saturday, March 15 in San Diego, with the match against the Sooners marking the first meeting since 1989.

The Blue Devils resume ACC competition Friday, March 21 and Sunday, March 23 with a pair of home contests against Virginia Tech and Virginia. Following trips to conference opponents Boston College, Miami and Florida State, the squad will then host Clemson and Georgia Tech Saturday, Apr. 12 and Sunday, Apr. 13 and visit nearby Wake Forest Friday, Apr. 18. Duke closes the regular season Sunday, Apr. 20 against ACC rival North Carolina at Ambler Tennis Stadium.

The 2014 ACC Championships are slated for Apr. 24-27 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

The 2014 NCAA Championships get underway May 10 and 11 at regional sites, with Georgia serving as the host site beginning with the Round of 16 Friday, May 16. The Bulldogs will also hold the NCAA Individual Championships May 21-26 in Athens.

As a team, Duke compiled a 58-32 singles ledger and a 20-12 mark in doubles this fall. Sophomore Bruno Semenzato hit doubles figures with a 10-3 singles record while classmate Michael Redlicki went 9-4 in tournament play. Semenzato and sophomore Josh Levine each captured singles titles at the Duke Fab Four Invitational while Semenzato and freshman TJ Pura teamed up to take a doubles title at the same event. Redshirt junior Cale Hammond also enjoyed a successful fall, winning a singles title at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
