DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University junior Jason Tahir was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in his career Tuesday, March 11 after guiding the 10th-ranked Blue Devils to a 7-0 sweep of then-No. 19 NC State in the team’s conference opener Sunday in Raleigh.
Tahir paired with sophomore Michael Redlicki in doubles to top the Wolfpack’s 42nd-ranked tandem of Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster in the No. 1 matchup, 8-7 (4). With the win, the Duke duo improved to 4-2 in dual match play.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Tahir extended the Blue Devils’ lead in the match to 2-0 by racing to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of No. 91 Mudge in the No. 2 singles contest. The decision marked Tahir’s eighth consecutive victory and moved him to 14-4 overall.
