Duke Selected to Host NCAA Regional

DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke's men tennis team will be one of 16 regional host sites for the 2012 NCAA Team Championships, as announced Tuesday by the NCAA.

Eighth-ranked Duke (22-5, 9-2 ACC) earned the No. 8 seed overall in the tournament and will welcome George Washington (17-7), LSU (14-10) and Northwestern (14-9) to Ambler Tennis Stadium May 12-13 for the NCAA Regionals. The first match on Saturday, May 12 between LSU and Northwestern will take place at 9 a.m., followed by Duke and George Washington at 12 p.m. The winners of the two matches will face each other on Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m. to compete for a trip to the NCAA Championships May 18-22 in Athens, Ga.

"It is a privilege to host the first two rounds and to be a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament," said head coach Ramsey Smith. "We've worked all year to put ourselves in this position and we look forward to getting the tournament started on our home courts."

Duke will host an NCAA Regional for the third consecutive year and 11th time in school history. The Blue Devils own an overall record of 18-2 when hosting an NCAA Regional, including wins over George Washington and Maryland last season to advance to the round of 16. Duke will be making its 21st consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 22nd overall in school history. The team is 38-21 all-time in tournament play.

The Blue Devils lead the all-time series with George Washington, 7-1, after defeating the Colonials in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Duke and LSU have squared off just seven times in program history with the Blue Devils leading the series by a 4-3 margin. Duke and Northwestern last met in 1984 and the Blue Devils hold a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Wildcats.

Ticket prices for all NCAA Tournament matches are $5 for adults and $3 for students/seniors, and each ticket is good for all matches each day. Tickets can be purchased outside the stadium on the day of the match. Parking for all matches will be available in the Blue Zone, which can be accessed off Duke University Road.
