Rising senior Henrique Cunha and freshman Bruno Semenzato, who both hail from Brazil, captured the doubles title at the Brazil F13 Futures tournament on clay in June. The Blue Devil duo dispatched Joss Espasandin and Diego Hidalgo, 6-4, 6-3, in the semifinals before posting a 7-5, 6-3 win against Idio Escobar and Marlon Oliveira in the final. Both Cunha and Semenzato also qualified for the main draw in singles, with Cunha reaching the round of 32 and Semenzato advancing to the championship match before falling to Fernando Romboli, 6-2, 6-4.
Cunha returned to action one week later at the Brazil F14 Futures tournament, where he reached the quarterfinals of the main draw in singles.
Rising junior Fred Saba competed in the USA F16 Futures tournament in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., in June, advancing to the round of 32 in the singles qualifying draw. Meanwhile, incoming freshman Michael Redlicki reached the quarterfinals of the main draw in singles.
Duke claimed its second Futures doubles championship of the summer in early July, as Redlicki and rising sophomore Jason Tahir teamed up to take the title on clay at the USA F18 Futures tournament in Pittsburgh. Tahir and Redlicki defeated Notre Dame's Casey Watt and fellow Duke teammate Chris Mengel, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round and posted a victory in the quarterfinals before taking down top-seeded Evan King of Michigan and Jordan Cox, 6-4,6-4, in the semifinals. The other semifinal saw Daniel Stahl and 2011 Duke graduate Reid Carleton drop a hard-fought decision to Ruben Gonzales of Illinois and UNLV's Joel Kliebowicz, 6-7 (11), 6-4, 11-9. In the final, Tahir and Redlicki edged Gonzales and Kliebowicz by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-3, to capture the doubles crown.
The main draw of the singles tournament in Pittsburgh also featured several Blue Devils, as Tahir made a run to the quarterfinals before falling to eighth-seeded Yuri Bezeruk, 6-3, 7-6 (6). Fifth-seeded Carleton advanced to the round of 16 while Redlicki and Mengel both fell in the first round.
At the USA F19 Futures tournament in Rochester later in July, Tahir reached the round of 16 and Redlicki advanced to the quarterfinals in singles action.
