DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Henrique Cunha of the ninth-ranked Duke men’s tennis team was named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after winning four matches over ranked opponents in singles and doubles last weekend at Virginia and Virginia Tech.

In Friday’s match at top-ranked Virginia, Cunha and doubles partner Raphael Hemmeler, the top-ranked pair in the country, downed Virginia's No. 2 tandem of Jamere Jenkins and Mac Stylslinger, 8-3. In singles, Cunha went on to down fifth-ranked Jenkins, 6-4, 6-0, from the top position.

The pair of Cunha and Hemmeler continued their dominant play Sunday at Virginia Tech, clinching the doubles point over No. 21 Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini with a 9-8 (2) victory. In singles, the senior went on to win his 12th consecutive match to open his final dual season, defeating No. 73 Contini of Virginia Tech, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

For the season, Cunha owns an impressive 12-2 record against nationally ranked opponents. In the latest ITA rankings, Cunha is listed in the fifth position in singles, while the duo of Cunha and Hemmeler maintained their No. 1 ranking.

Up next, Duke will host Florida State Saturday, March 30 at Ambler Tennis Stadium. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
