DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Henrique Cunha was named the ITA Carolina Region Senior Player of Year and the ITA Carolina Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner Wednesday, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Freshman Michael Redlicki garnered the ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year honors, while assistant coach Jonathan Stokke was tabbed the ITA Carolina Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Cunha is just the third Blue Devil to win the ITA Carolina Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Awards, joining current head coach of the Blue Devils Ramsey Smith (2000 and 2001) and assistant coach Stokke. The Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship is awarded to the player who best demonstrates leadership qualities on the court and in the community, as well as the player who shows the highest level of sportsmanship in matches throughout the season.

A native of Jaú, Brazil, Cunha becomes the fourth Blue Devil to be named the ITA Regional Senior Player of the Year and the third consecutive, joining Phillip King (2004), Reid Carleton (2011) and Torsten Wietoska (2012). Cunha owns an undefeated 18-0 mark in his final dual season and a 35-3 mark in doubles.

A native of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., Redlicki becomes the fourth player in the program’s history to be awarded the ITA Regional Rookie of the Year, joining Phillip King (2001), Cunha (2010) and junior Chris Mengel (2011). Redlicki has played to a 30-9 singles record and 25-7 mark in doubles for the season.

Stokke becomes the third Duke assistant to be named the ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, joining Dave Hagymas (1997) and Josh Goffi (2010). Stokke has helped the Blue Devils to a 24-5 record this season, including a perfect 15-0 ledger in contests at home this season in the regular season and the NCAA Championships.

All regional award winners are eligible for the ITA national awards.

Duke will return to the courts in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships Thursday, May 16 at 8 p.m. to take on Kentucky at the Kahn Outdoor Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill.
