Scouting Loyola
Loyola enters its 19th NCAA Tournament with an 11-4 record and is coming off of an 18-11 loss to eventual ECAC Champion Ohio State in the ECAC Tournament semifinal ... All four of the Greyhounds’ losses came against seeded teams in the NCAA Tournament ... The reigning national champion is led on offense by Justin Ward with 57 points from 27 goals and a team-best 30 assists ... Mike Sawyer is the top goal scorer with 34 tallies as five different Greyhounds have at least 15 goals on the year ... Scott Ratliff helps anchor the defense that is allowing just 8.53 goals per game with 29 caused turnovers and 75 ground balls ... The Greyhounds’ 8.53 goals against average is 12th nationally ... At the faceoff X, Blake Burkhart is 108-of-224 for .482, while Brendan Donovan sports a 55-of-119 (.462) mark ... In goal, Jack Runkel is 11-3 with an 8.58 goals against average and a .521 save percentage ... Loyola is 7-1 on the road this year with the lone loss coming to the Blue Devils in Durham.
 
Last Time We Met
Duke goaltender Kyle Turri posted nine saves while junior attackman Jordan Wolf had two goals and two assists to lead the Blue Devils to a 9-8 win over then-No. 4 Loyola ... After pushing their lead to 9-7 on Wolf’s goal from Jake Tripucka at the 3:45 mark of the fourth period, the Blue Devils held off the Greyhounds, who pulled within one goal at 9-8 on Justin Ward’s marker with 1:13 left in the game ... Duke’s Brendan Fowler secured the ensuing faceoff, but, following a Blue Devil turnover, Loyola regained possession and called timeout with 37 seconds on the clock ...  Duke’s defense, led by senior close defenseman Bill Conners on Loyola attackman Mike Sawyer, stymied the Greyhounds, who were unable to get a shot off before time expired ... Wolf’s four total points led the Blue Devils with Josh Dionne, Case Matheis and Josh Offit added two markers each ...  Tripucka logged a pair of assists ...  Duke’s starting attack scored eight of the team’s 13 points with six goals on 17 shots for the game.

Brendan Fowler has found his way onto various single-season lists in the NCAA records book ... His 167 ground balls rank fourth in NCAA single-season history, while his current 9.82 GBs/gm average is 11th ... Kevin Massa of Bryant set the NCAA single-season marks with 223 and 12.39 this season ... At the faceoff X his 268 wins and 415 faceoffs attempted are fifth all-time.
