CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Blue Devils earned their third consecutive ACC win Friday afternoon, sweeping No. 47 Miami by a 7-0 score at the Hurricanes’ Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Duke moved to 13-5 on the season and 5-1 in conference play with the victory.

Playing their third-straight ACC match on the road, the Blue Devils took momentum early with a strong showing in doubles. The tandem of sophomores Bruno Semenzato and Daniel McCall led the squad off the courts with an 8-2 win over Miami’s Bernard Tefel and Henrique Tsukamoto in the No. 3 contest. Junior Jason Tahir and sophomore Josh Levine followed, topping the Hurricanes’ duo of Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto, 8-4, on court two for their second victory in as many matches together.

Senior Fred Saba and junior Raphael Hemmeler outlasted Miami’s Omar Aly and Wilfredo Gonzalez, 7-4, in a tiebreaker on court one to improve to 10-3 as a doubles pair.

Saba was the first Blue Devil to finish his singles match, rolling to a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Miami’s Flores on court two. Ranked 54th in the ITA singles poll, Saba collected his third-straight singles victory in the process, improving to 15-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Hemmeler also extended his win streak to three matches, downing Soto of the Hurricanes in the No. 3 contest, 6-3, 6-1. Levine then clinched the team victory for Duke with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Danny Shebshayevich in the No. 5 slot. The decision moved Levine’s season ledger to a team-best 27-6 mark.

Freshman TJ Pura remained undefeated in dual match play, dispatching Tefel by scores of 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 contest. No. 48 Tahir then prevailed in a battle of ranked players on court one, posting a 6-2, 7-5 win over 92nd-ranked Aly. Tahir moved to 19-6 overall and 4-2 at the top spot with the decision.

Semenzato, the 71st-ranked player in the ITA poll, rounded out the afternoon with another straight-sets victory, defeating Gonzalez 7-6 (5), 6-1 from the No. 4 position. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Semenzato is now 25-8 overall and 5-1 in ACC contests.

“This was a solid road win against a tough Miami team,” said head coach Ramsey Smith. “Our guys are really focused right now and all seven guys are competing well. We need to keep working hard and prepare for Sunday.”

The Blue Devils continue their road trip to Florida Sunday, Apr. 6, visiting No. 30 Florida State for a 12 p.m. matchup.
