DURHAM, N.C. - Rising sophomore Beatrice Capra will attend a banquet held by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Aug. 25 to accept her award for making the 2012 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team. Capra was announced as a member of the 2012 ITA College All-Star Team after finishing the 2012 season ranked No. 2 in the final ITA rankings.

"Being selected as one of the players to the collegiate all-star team is a huge honor," Capra said. "There are so many tough collegiate tennis players who I have so much respect for, so for me to even be considered for this award is amazing. This award shows great credit to the hard work my team and my coaches have put into this year, and I am so honored I am able to represent Duke."

The 29th edition of the ITA Collegiate All-Star team includes the nation's top-ranked men's and women's tennis players from the season-ending Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings in each division of the NCAA, NJCAA, and the winners from the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Capra will represent the Blue Devils alongside Nicole Gibbs from Stanford and Marta Lesniak from SMU.

"I would not have had any of the results this year if it wasn't for my coaches and my team," Capra said. "They helped me adjust so easily into these new situations, and supported me through everything. We all worked so hard every day and wanted to get better. We all brought out a certain intensity in each other that really helped us improve."

A native of Ellicot City, Md., Capra wrapped up the 2012 season with an overall record of 32-5 in singles, including a 23-2 record in dual match play, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship, garnering All-America honors. The 30th different All-American in program history, she earned numerous accolades as a rookie, including ACC Player of the Year, ACC Freshman of the Year, ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player, ITA National Co-Rookie of the Year and ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year. In addition, Capra finished the year ranked No. 2 in singles in the final ITA poll and guided the Blue Devils to semifinals of the NCAA Championship and the program's league-leading 17th ACC title.

Despite being celebrated this weekend for her accomplishments of last season, Capra is already looking forward to the 2012-2013 season.

"I am so excited for the upcoming season," Capra said. "Last year was just a glimpse of what our team is capable of doing. It was amazing we were able to produce those types of results while having four freshmen who have never played on a team before. Although it was heart breaking losing in the semis of the NCAA Tournament last year, I think it all showed us how good we really are. Now we have that experience in our pockets and we know what were up against. I think we are all really motivated to get back to work and have an even better year."

The 2012-2013 season begins on Sept. 14 with the Duke Invitational in Cary, N.C.
