PALO ALTO, CALIF.-- Duke's 26th-ranked doubles duo of Kelly McCain (Tampa, Fla.) and Hillary Adams (New York, NY) recorded two victories on Wednesday in the NCAA women's tennis doubles competition to advance to the Elite Eight at the Taube Tennis Center in Palo Alto, Calif.
The tandem defeated 34th-ranked Alesia Mikalayeva/Liina Suurvarik of Illinois State, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in the first match and then met up with second-ranked Bea Bielik/Janet Bergman of Wake Forest in the final 16. Duke cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Atlantic Coast Conference foe. The victory over Bielik/Bergman is the second consecutive against the second-ranked team.
The Blue Devil duo now owns a 13-6 mark this season and has not lost a match since early April, winning their last nine in a row. The two victories also gives the tandem All-America status by advancing to the Elite Eight. Adams/McCain will next take on fifth-ranked Lauren Fisher/Megan Bradley of UCLA after singles play is completed on Thursday.
