STANFORD, Calif. – Senior’s Nadine Fahoum and Ellah Nze fell in their opening doubles match in the 2011 NCAA Doubles Championships to close out their careers at Duke on Thursday night.
The No. 16 duo fell in their first round match to the No. 3 overall seed Kaitlyn Christian and Maria Sanchez from Southern California. Fahoum and Nze battled throughout the opening set with Christian and Sanchez as the Blue Devil pair took an early 2-0 lead. Fahoum and Nze swapped games with the No. 3 overall seed all the way up to the tiebreaker in the first set. The USC duo would prevail in the first set 7-6 and used its momentum to earn a 6-1 win in the second set to move on to the second round.
With the loss Duke’s season comes to a close. The Blue Devils finished the season with an overall record of 25-5, a 10-1 mark in conference action and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season.
