DURHAM, N.C. -- The sixth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team earned its 25th consecutive bid to the NCAA Team Championship and enter the event for the 26th time in school history, as announced by the association Tuesday. The Blue Devils garnered the fourth seed in the competition and are scheduled to face East Tennessee State (14-8) in the first round Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m. The match marks the first time in school history the Blue Devils will compete against the Buccaneers.

Ohio State (19-8) and South Carolina (16-8) will also compete in Durham, with the match scheduled for Friday, May 9, at 10 a.m. The winner of each contest will face off in second round action on Saturday, May 10th, at 3 p.m.

Duke has had a long history of success in the NCAA Team Championship, compiling an all-time record of 57-24 (.704). The Blue Devils’ .704 winning percentage is the fifth highest in the NCAA. Although decimated by injury last season, the Blue Devils reached the round of 16 before falling to Florida.

With Jamie Ashworth at the helm, the Blue Devils have reached the NCAA Team Championship in each of his 18 years as head coach, dating back to his first year holding the position in 1997. Duke won an NCAA Championship with Ashworth as head coach in 2009. Duke owns a 46-16 record in the NCAA Team Championship under Ashworth.

Duke enters the NCAA Team Championship with a 24-4 overall record, exceeding the 20-win barrier for the 14th time in 18 years. In the squad’s most recent contest, the Blue Devils fell to Virginia in the ACC Championship match April 27.

Currently ranked sixth by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the Blue Devils boast four singles players and five doubles teams among those nationally ranked by the association.

Sophomore Beatrice Capra, ranked seventh, headlines the Blue Devils in the singles rankings. Capra is joined by junior and 26th-ranked Ester Goldfeld, senior and 35th-ranked Hanna Mar and freshman and 113th-ranked Alyssa Smith.

In doubles, Capra and Mar rank fifth in the nation, joined by 30th-ranked duo of Goldfeld and Smith, 43rd-ranked junior Annie Mulholland and Goldfeld, 57th-ranked Goldfeld and senior Marianne Jodoin and 88th-ranked Mulholland and freshman Chalena Scholl.
