DURHAM, N.C. - Sophomore Rachel Kahan extended her singles dual match win-streak to 34, and the third-ranked Duke women's tennis team defeated the College of Charleston, 7-0, Friday afternoon in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth picked up career win No. 341, placing him just 10 wins away from setting the ACC's all-time wins record by a women's tennis coach.

"I liked the effort we had in singles," said Ashworth. "I thought that we did a really good job of not giving them any confidence. We didn't do a lot of scoreboard-watching, which was good."

Duke began the afternoon with doubles play, as sophomore Hanna Mar and freshman Annie Mulholland defeated sisters Christin and Caroline Newman, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles. Finishing at almost the same time, Kahan and freshman Beatrice Capra picked up an 8-2 victory over Kelly Kambourelis and Jenny Falcone to clinch the doubles point for Duke.

Junior Mary Clayton and freshman Ester Goldfeld led 5-3 in No. 1 doubles, but the match ceased play once the Blue Devils clinched the doubles point.

In singles action, seventh-ranked Capra took down Christin Newman, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 1 spot, while Mar, ranked 38th, cruised past Caroline Newman, 6-0, 6-1, from the No. 2 spot.

Kahan, ranked 117th in the country, defeated Kelly Kambourelis, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 3 spot to extend her dual singles wins streak. The Unionville, Conn. native is now 3-0 this spring.

Clayton, ranked 66th, defeated Falcone, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot, while senior Monica Gorny also won 6-1, 6-1 in from the No. 6 spot to clinch the overall match for the Blue Devils.

"It was great to play," said Gorny, who made her first dual singles appearance of the season. "I think the energy was really good on every court, so that really helped me get through the team aspect of it."

Duke will face 68th-ranked Illinois tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the championship match, with the winner earning one of 15 automatic bids to the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships, which will be hosted Feb. 10-13 by the University of Virginia.
