CLEMSON, S.C. - The third-ranked Duke women's tennis team weathered the storm after a match originally scheduled to be played outdoors, was moved indoors, and the Blue Devils outlasted 23rd-ranked Clemson 6-1 Friday evening.

There was no lack of drama by the time the doubles point was decided. The 17th-ranked duo of Josipa Bek and Keri Wong applied pressure to Duke (16-2, 5-0 ACC) early with an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot over the 42nd-ranked tandem of freshman Ester Goldfeld and junior Mary Clayton. The Blue Devils countered and evened the score just minutes later as the 25th-ranked unit comprised of freshman Beatrice Capra and sophomore Rachel Kahan scored and 8-4 victory of their own over Beatrice Gumulya and Romy Koelzer in the No. 2 spot.

Tied 6-6 at the time the match on court two finished, one of the most exciting doubles matches in the ACC this season ensued on court three to decide the doubles point. The match featured sophomore Hanna Mar and freshman Annie Mulholland against Klara Vyskocilova and Monica Kochanova. Both sides split the next four games, forcing a tie-break to decide the match. A Kochanova double-fault and proved costly for Clemson (11-7, 4-2 ACC), and after a three match points, Mar and Mulholland went on to win the tie-break, take the match 9-8 and give Duke a 1-0 lead in the overall match heading into singles competition.

The Tigers did not give in on the singles front, as Gumulaya scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the 86th-ranked Kahan in the No. 4 spot to tie the overall match at one-all. The loss was Kahan's first ever in 16 career ACC singles matches.

The Blue Devils responded however, as No. 51 Mar picked up a tough, 6-4, 6-2, win over the 88th-ranked Vyskocilova in the No. 3 spot to regain the lead for Duke. Mar's victory snapped Vyskocilova's six-match win streak.

Ranked second in the nation, Capra pushed her win streak to seven straight after downing the 55th-ranked Wong, 6-2, 6-4, in a hard-fought match in the No. 1 spot. Goldfeld, ranked 112th, clinched the match for Duke just a short while later with a tough, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, win over Bek, a three-time All-America selection, in the No. 2 spot.

With just four courts within the indoor complex, the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches began once the first two matches completed, but Duke remained poised. Ranked 70th, Clayton rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Nelly Ciolkowski in the No. 5 spot to claim her team-leading 25th victory this season.

After taking the first set, 6-1, freshman and 92nd-ranked Monica Turewicz had her hands full, as Koelzer claimed the second set, 6-1. Trailing Koelzer 4-0 in the deciding third set tie-break, Turewicz's resiliency proved to be the difference, taking the next 10 points to seal the match.

Duke will head south to Atlanta, Ga., to close out its ACC road schedule with a match against 24th-ranked Georgia Tech on Sunday, Apr. 1. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
