Gerald J. Harrison joined the Duke football staff in January of 2008 and serves as an Associate Director of Athletics for Human Resources.

In his current role, Harrison manages the Duke Athletic Department’s human resource operation while overseeing the strength and conditioning, athletic training and equipment groups. In addition, he continues to assist head coach David Cutcliffe with the overall development of the Blue Devil gridiron program and oversight of Duke’s fencing program.

Harrison serves on the NCAA Fencing Oversight Committee, the ACC Committee on Equity and the Duke University Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board.

In December of 2012, Harrison was honored with Duke University’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award given by The Office for Institutional Equity.  The “EDI” award recognizes those who have made an exceptional commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through the development of, or involvement in, tangible strategies, projects and initiatives. Recipients demonstrate a commitment by leadership in helping create a more diverse and inclusive environment within the Duke Community.

Harrison spent the 2008 season as an Assistant Director of Athletics for Football Development. 

Harrison spent six years on the football staff at the University of Tennessee, serving as Director of Community Relations (2002-04) and Director of High School Relations (2005-07).

During Harrison’s tenure, the Volunteers won 52 games with three 10-win seasons, five bowl game appearances and a pair of SEC Eastern Division championships.

A native of Florence, S.C., Harrison graduated from Tennessee in 2001 with a degree in communications. He is a member of the American Football Coach Association, the Black Coaches and Administrators Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
