2011-12 Duke Athletics Year in Review
DURHAM, N.C. – The 2011-12 Duke Athletics Year in Review packet details the athletic department’s accomplishments from the 2011-12 season as a whole and by sport. Included in the packet are an impressive list of Duke’s award winners, community service highlights and a summary of each team’s season.
Highlights from 2011-12:
• Duke earned a 16th-place finish in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings (3rd among private institutions)
• 12 Duke teams cracked the national top 10
• 15 Duke teams cracked the national top 25
• Two Blue Devils – Curtis Beach (Indoor Track & Field) and Becca Ward (Women’s Fencing) – won NCAA Championships
• Five teams captured ACC Championships
• Nine student-athletes won ACC Individual Championships
• Men’s basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski became Division I Men’s Basketball’s all-time winningest coach
• Seven Blue Devils were named ACC Player of the Year (including 4 offensive and 1 defensive POTY)
• 34 Blue Devils earned All-America honors
• Seven student-athletes were first-round draft picks
• Six coaches were named ACC Coach of the Year
• Over 500 student-athletes participated in over 2,000 hours of community service work
• 25 of Duke’s 26 teams posted GPAs of at least 3.00 during the fall and spring semesters
• An ACC-leading 13 Duke teams were honored by the NCAA for ranking among the top 10 percent the multi-year APR report
• Eight student-athletes earned CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America honors
• 140 Blue Devils were named to their sports’ All-ACC Academic Teams
• Four student-athletes were named their sports’ ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
