Junior Amy Fryt took first out of 17 competitors in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.95m (12-11.50), nearly 12 inches higher than the second-place finisher. Freshman Emily Mattoon came in third with a jump of 3.50m (11-5.75), while junior Cassie Ludwig cleared 3.35m (10-11.75) for 10th place and freshman Amber Kuntz cleared 3.20m (10-6) to tie for 12th.
In the men's shot put, sophomore Michael Barbas finished third out of 42 with a throw of 16.63m (54-6.75).
Two Blue Devil runners also took part in the 400m dash with Sam Bowler posting a 51.77 time and Michael Stanley ran a 51.90 to finish 64th and 66th, respectively.
Action at the Wake Forest Open will continue tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with the women's javelin throw and concludes with the 200m dash at 3:30 p.m.
